Summer holidays

The summer holiday is coming and it's time for me to head back to Norway for the holidays. It's actually quite weird, living two places (almost). It's like you've got two lives. One in Norway, one in UK. Anyway, I've sat down just to draw up a rough list of my "Summerplan" of what I need to work on / what I'm doing over the summer.

Summerplan
  • Work full time in the grocery store (worked here since I was 15). Save up the money
  • Work as camera operator and editor, making films for Skeive Dager 2012 festival (Oslo Pride Days 2012)
  • Research dissertation
  • Live life
I know it might not seem as much, but I'll be working 06:30 - 15:00 Monday to Friday, then home to do dissertation and try to squeeze in friends and family. So that is the right amount I'd say.

Summer Ball done

That is Summer Ball done and it was a great success (except for the weather). The students absolutely loved it!

Like I descibed last week, I was aiming for having having three more crew members. I got Iain Rose, Johan P. Kraugerud and Eoin McLoughlin to work as camera operator, all of which have a good experience withing film production.

Here you can see the final results. ENJOY!

Dissertation proposal

UPDATE: Final topic changed, after feedback from dissertation supervisor. New topic: documentary.
______________________________________

My dissertation proposal is now submitted.

Main topic:

How are religion, philosophy and mythology used in the works of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien?

Key words:
•             Philosophy
•             Religion
•             Mythology
•             Childhood
•             Adaption

The aim of this dissertation is to question and explore how religion, philosophy and mythology is used on a conscious level in fantasy literature and film. I would like to argue that behind the greatest literary works and films are a deep meaning.

I intend to take a deeper look into the great works of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, more specifically The Narnia Chronicles and The Lord of Rings, discovering the philosophical and religious elements. Both authors were in “the Inklings”, a literary discussion group associated with University of Oxford in England. I’m very much passionate about fantasy literature because when I was growing up as a child the stories helped me expand my imagination and I firmly believe that the values taught in the books are values that can be applied in real life. I believe this so much that last I had the lion Aslan from the Narnia Chronicles tattooed on my left leg.
