Discovery progress

_____

I have finally started shooting for the Discovery infomercial  A few days ago I was at Age Exchange, which is a local charity cafè where they host weekly get-togethers for senior citizens. Here they can chat, play bingo, have a cuppa and more. I put together some RUSHES from the shoot. Keep in mind none of the shots have been colourcorrected and the external sound has not been added. This is only meant as a progress report for the blog.

The dates for the rest of the shoots have now been set. Shooting will commence after Easter, so stay tuned!

You can download my finished CV here (compressed version, suitable for viewing on screen and basic print).

Like I said in the previous post, I wanted to tidy up the CV, make it more exciting and compress it down to one page.

CV

---

I've decided to design my CV. Yes, that's right; design my CV. Normally people have the standard black & white thing, with Curriculum Vitae in bold or italic on the top. If you're lucky you might even see a bold, italic and underlined headline. Everyone has got one, they all pretty much look the same. In the recent years individuality has been a way to for people to stand out in the crowd, or rather the pile on the managers desk. Okay individuality, check.

Here I started to think at what I would look for if I was the one hiring. Often CVs can be full of mumbo jumbo just to make it be two pages and so much doublespace you could fit a house inbetween the lines. So I started thinking of designs which would let me compress my CV into one page, leaving the other free for a potential cover letter OR a list of films I have worked on.

So from here I wrote down some keywords:

  • Individual, but not too crazy
  • Clean
  • Colour
  • Minimalistic
From those words I came up with a sketch

Dissertation done

Dissertation is now done and dusted!

"Topic outline
This dissertation will examine how a film can be classed as a documentary and what it is perceived to be.

  1. The first chapter will aim to define the documentary genre.
  2. The second chapter will look at how this can be applies to Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11.
  3. The third chapter will look at how the film is received and will end in a discussion, connecting all three chapters.
Bill Nichols’s Introduction to Documentary and Representing Reality will be essential to this dissertation. The interest in this topic comes from a personal passion for documentary film and is very much relevant to my desired career path."
